  • Ramp Kit for Block Play Setup
  • The Ramp Kit for Block Play is great for Preschools!
  • Ramp Kit for Block Play Full Set
Our kit includes Kodo's exclusive Criss-Cross Blocks, unique pieces designed to help children combine ramp play with blocks. Twelve X-shaped stands are sized for integrated construction and offer kids ways to think about how loose parts work together within systems. Build roads, bridges, towers, and chain reaction machines with this set of ramps, balls, and your existing unit blocks. When clean up time is needed, simply pull apart the Criss-Cross blocks to store flat on a shelf, and tuck away ramps in the included Ramp Storage Bag. The ball holder will hold twenty-four 2" balls or twenty-seven 1.75 “ balls and can be mounted to a wall or your existing block storage shelf. We include ten wooden balls to get things rolling!

Complexity is what we look for when observing children’s block and ramp structures. Having plenty of interesting loose parts supports several early mathematical and science concepts; parts and wholes, spatial relationships, combinations and connections of individual and groups of materials, understanding of material properties, design thinking, systems, and more. The addition of ramps is fast becoming the material educators choose to support engineering practices for their young students so we’ve included both wooden Discovery Ramps and our own exclusive Rubber Ramp in this classroom kit.

Includes:
Discovery Ramps Single Set
Ball holder - 2 slot (non magnetic)
Two 6' Rubber Ramp Pieces
Criss Cross blocks, full Set
Discovery Ramp Storage Bag
Extra Set of 10 2" Wood Balls

Information about Criss-Cross Blocks
Unit blocks are standard in virtually every program we’ve encountered. Our own engineering and education teams made sure that Criss-Cross Blocks ( included in this kit) are proportional and work in conjunction with units for added interest and increased play value. The sky’s the limit when it comes to building with unit blocks. Now we’ve increased the capacity for children to add complexity to their designs. Construction with unit blocks and ramps can be integrated with the addition of Criss-Cross Blocks.
Cross Blocks were designed to be put together and taken apart by children. We recommend that adults do not assemble the pairs, but rather encourage free exploration of this new material. Children will soon discover how simple it is to fit the slots together, but may, as we have seen first-hand, combine the individual pieces in abstract ways. This is just fine, as exploring a material’s properties is very valuable for understanding how the material can be used.

From the Kodo Classroom:
Offer loose parts for children to combine, connect, and add even more dimension to their structures. Use what you have on hand. Cardboard mailing tubes, pipe fittings, wood, plastic or cardboard planks, trays, bean bags, sandbags, spools, laundry soap caps, sticks, and smooth stones are some of our favorite items to offer for construction.

Physics and Engineering Vocabulary:
stability, foundation, course, path, direction, speed, force, gravity, support, energy, momentum, distance, flexibility, strength, angle, stack, height, weight, length, variable, system, circuit, independent, dependent, interdependent
