Getting outside is more than just a breath of fresh air; it’s a learning opportunity for kids. That’s why our Outdoor collection is designed to turn the outdoors into a classroom with STEM-focused products that encourage exploration, discovery, and hands-on learning.

Getting outside is more than just a breath of fresh air; it’s a learning opportunity for kids. That’s why our Outdoor collection is designed to turn the outdoors into a classroom with STEM-focused products that encourage exploration, discovery, and hands-on learning. Whether used in school or at home, these products help children connect with nature, engage their senses, and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Why is Outdoor Learning Important?

Outdoor learning is a part of a well-rounded education. It helps children connect with the natural world and offers countless hands-on, experiential learning opportunities. By taking the classroom outside, kids are encouraged to observe, ask questions, and engage in activities that stimulate their curiosity and critical thinking skills. This type of learning fosters creativity, resilience, and adaptability—skills for life.

Outdoor STEM products are great because they allow children to apply scientific concepts in real life. From understanding weather patterns to observing plant and animal life, outdoor learning makes concepts taught indoors more relevant and memorable, so children retain the information and develop a love for STEM.

Outdoor Learning As Part of The Curriculum

Incorporating outdoor learning products into the classroom offers a refreshing change of pace and a new perspective on education. By getting outside, teachers can create immersive learning experiences that are fun and effective. Outdoor STEM products encourage active participation, teamwork, social skills, and more. Outdoor learning also supports physical development by playing outside and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.

When students use outdoor learning tools, they are not just learning about science but becoming young scientists themselves. They are encouraged to observe, experiment, and draw conclusions from their findings. This hands-on approach to learning also gives them a sense of ownership and accountability so that they will take an active role in their education.

Outdoor STEM Products You’ll Love

Bringing learning outside can make educational experiences more dynamic and engaging for children. One of the standout products in this collection is the Outdoor Mobile Magnet Wall. This versatile tool allows kids to explore the principles of magnetism and physics in an open-air environment. They can experiment with magnetic properties by arranging and rearranging various chutes and tubes, which is excellent for understanding concepts like attraction, repulsion, and gravity.

Another fantastic addition to your outdoor learning space is the Pump Works set. This hands-on product introduces basic engineering and physics concepts as children explore how water moves through pumps and pipes. Kids can experiment with water flow, pressure, and pumping mechanics, making learning about fluid dynamics and cause-and-effect relationships fun and interactive.

Garden Hand Tools are perfect for encouraging kids to get their hands dirty and learn about the natural world. These tools are designed specifically for small hands, making them ideal for gardening activities. Children can dig, plant, and tend to gardens, fostering a connection with nature and understanding plant life cycles, growth, and environmental stewardship.

For a more comprehensive outdoor learning experience, the Mobile Science and Sensory Lab is an excellent choice. This all-in-one station provides a space for various science experiments and sensory activities. Whether children examine natural materials, conduct water experiments, or engage in sensory play with sand and soil, this mobile lab makes science accessible and exciting. It’s a great way to encourage exploration and discovery outdoors, allowing for messy experiments and hands-on learning in a flexible, movable format.

Jaci I.

Director of Early Childhood Education @ Congregation Beth Elohim

We have set up a sensory room with many of Kodo’s materials–light table, magnet wall, wind tunnel–and it’s a favorite space for all of our classes to visit. Parents and professional visitors are quite impressed with the uniqueness and open-ended aspect of the materials.

I met with the founder many years ago at a NAEYC conference when he was just starting and had just a few products and was immediately impressed with his understanding of how young children learn. It has been a pleasure to watch the company grow while maintaining the integrity of your knowledge of how young children learn best through active participation and exploration of their environment.

Cathy H.

Teacher @ Tennie Russell Primary School

Our little learners are finding new ways to explore through light, movement, engineering and more. Adding the wind tunnel to our lab has been a game changer in terms of excitement level and inquiry. Students eagerly explore how things blow when the tunnel is adjusted to varying angles, and they discover the differences in materials and how well they move through and out of the tunnel. We expanded our engineering/building area by increasing choices with the Swiss Ramp Stands and the Discovery Ramps set. In doing that, we sparked a higher interest in force and motion, including problem-solving on how to stop said motion. These are just some of the items we purchased from Kodo Kids with our grant, and we look forward to seeing our young minds at work as we continue to expand our STEAM lab.

Anna D.

Nature Preschool Teacher @ Oak Ridge Elementary

The Outdoor Ramps have been a fantastic addition to support outdoor learning at Oak Ridge Elementary. Students in preschool through 1st grade have been able to use the ramps in multiple environments, including indoors, on our playground, in our forest outdoor classroom, and in our prairie outdoor classroom. In addition, all students, regardless of their abilities, have been able to participate in ramp play. Students who are wheelchair-bound are able to participate in ramp play with their classmates due to having longer length sections that reach the child’s chair height.
