Children are naturally curious about the world around them. The sensory toys in this collection are designed to help kids explore their world through touch, sight, sound, and smell. These learning tools make children wonder and push them to discover colors, patterns, textures, and materials. Whether in the classroom or at home, these activities engage children and enhance their ability to focus, solve problems, and process new information.

Why Are Sensory Toys Important?

Sensory exploration is critical to a child’s overall development because it helps them make sense of the world. When children are introduced to various textures, sounds, and visual elements using our sensory toys, they better understand the objects surrounding them in their environment, whether it’s a classroom or a home. As students learn to manipulate objects and materials, their hand-eye coordination improves.

Sensory toys also significantly enhance emotional regulation and focus in children. Sensory activities have a therapeutic effect—their calming and grounding nature is ideal for children who may feel overwhelmed or anxious in the classroom. By providing sensory input, children learn to manage their emotions, improving their ability to focus and self-regulate.

Bringing Sensory Toys into the Classroom

Sensory tools help create a more engaging and inclusive space for all students in your classroom. With this hands-on learning, children can cater to their curiosity and actively participate in school when they explore different textures, sounds, and materials. These resources help educators create spaces dedicated to encouraging exploration in children, turning boring lessons into a fun experience that every student looks forward to. If your classroom has children with diverse learning needs like ADHD or autism, these sensory tools can be a game-changer in providing them with a calming yet hands-on interaction.

Sensory Toys You’ll Love

Sensory materials open up a whole new way for children to explore and interact with the world around them, uncovering creativity, exploration, and a life-long love for learning new concepts.

Our set of 50 Pebbles is made from a mix of stone and resin and provides the perfect approach to introducing children to early literacy. Each pebble is engraved with a lowercase letter, which kids can use to trace, sort, and arrange in different variations and learn how to make words. These pebbles are versatile—use them in water, sand, or outdoor classrooms and introduce children to a new sensory exploration.

The Half Rounds are large wooden half-cylinders perfect for endless fun and imaginative play in a classroom full of curious minds. These pieces attract children’s attention as they turn the cylinders into slides, balance beams, tunnels, and even make-believe planes. As children climb, crawl, and navigate through the structure, they actively develop their gross motor skills and balance.

Sensory tables are standard in many classrooms; having a Funnel Stand makes the sensory play more ordered and engaging. This stand improves the experience by placing the materials at a child’s eye level, encouraging them to play with the water and pour and mix the sand and other materials. Thanks to six funnel sizes, kids can develop hand-eye coordination and work on their problem-solving skills while learning to manage the flow of materials safely and without creating a mess.

Finally, we have Kinetic Sand, a must-have for giving kids a complete sensory experience in the classroom. The sand has an easy-to-mold texture so children can create designs, from sand castles to their favorite cartoon characters. Its shape-shifting quality and soft texture give children a stress-free, almost therapeutic experience during playtime.

Director of Early Childhood Education @ Congregation Beth Elohim

We have set up a sensory room with many of Kodo’s materials–light table, magnet wall, wind tunnel–and it’s a favorite space for all of our classes to visit. Parents and professional visitors are quite impressed with the uniqueness and open-ended aspect of the materials.

I met with the founder many years ago at a NAEYC conference when he was just starting and had just a few products and was immediately impressed with his understanding of how young children learn. It has been a pleasure to watch the company grow while maintaining the integrity of your knowledge of how young children learn best through active participation and exploration of their environment.

Teacher @ Tennie Russell Primary School

Our little learners are finding new ways to explore through light, movement, engineering and more. Adding the wind tunnel to our lab has been a game changer in terms of excitement level and inquiry. Students eagerly explore how things blow when the tunnel is adjusted to varying angles, and they discover the differences in materials and how well they move through and out of the tunnel. We expanded our engineering/building area by increasing choices with the Swiss Ramp Stands and the Discovery Ramps set. In doing that, we sparked a higher interest in force and motion, including problem-solving on how to stop said motion. These are just some of the items we purchased from Kodo Kids with our grant, and we look forward to seeing our young minds at work as we continue to expand our STEAM lab.

Nature Preschool Teacher @ Oak Ridge Elementary

The Outdoor Ramps have been a fantastic addition to support outdoor learning at Oak Ridge Elementary. Students in preschool through 1st grade have been able to use the ramps in multiple environments, including indoors, on our playground, in our forest outdoor classroom, and in our prairie outdoor classroom. In addition, all students, regardless of their abilities, have been able to participate in ramp play. Students who are wheelchair-bound are able to participate in ramp play with their classmates due to having longer length sections that reach the child’s chair height.
